June Motoring Milestones
13 June 1895 – The First Real Auto Race

1 June 1849 – Stanley Steam Cars Enter the Scene

This Month’s Icon
The Ferrari F40

Born in June 1987, the F40 wasn’t just a Ferrari — it was a thunderous farewell from Enzo Ferrari himself.
With a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V8 punching out 471 horsepower, it rocketed from 0–60 mph in just 2.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 201 mph. At the time, it was the fastest road-legal car ever made — and even by today’s standards, it holds its own against the most advanced supercars on the planet.
The F40 was stripped-down, purpose-built, and ferociously loud. There was no power steering, no traction control, and no insulation — just a screaming engine, a 5-speed manual gearbox, and your own nerve. The body was crafted from lightweight Kevlar and carbon fibre, giving it strength without sacrificing speed. Every vent and curve had a reason — every gram was counted.
The car became an icon not just for its numbers, but for its soul. It appeared on Top Gear, countless automotive magazines, and cemented itself as the poster car of a generation.
Back in 1987, it cost around €330,000. Today, well-preserved examples fetch over €3 million. And unlike many of today’s digital-era supercars, the F40 still makes your palms sweat and your heart race just by turning the key.
Timeless. Brutal. Legendary.

BMW 420i M Sport (2022)
A Coupe That Commands the Road
Design & Comfort: Built to Impress Before You Even Start the Engine
€43,900 - 16,000 km excellent condition
With sculpted coupe lines and that unmistakable M Sport body styling, the BMW 420i turns heads without even trying. It’s low, wide, and perfectly proportioned — a car that makes a statement before it moves an inch. Inside, you’ll find premium Vernasca leather seats that hug you like a sports chair but glide like a lounge seat. Subtle ambient lighting gives the cabin a cockpit feel, and the dashboard flows seamlessly around you with that signature BMW wraparound design.
Dual-zone climate control, electric heated sports seats, and a leather-wrapped M Sport steering wheel make every journey — whether across Nicosia or into the mountains — feel like a treat. You sit low, and you feel in control.
Performance & Economy: Turbocharged Elegance
Under the bonnet, the 420i hides a punchy 2.0-litre turbocharged engine delivering 181 horsepower and 0–100 km/h in around 7.1 seconds. It’s not just fast — it’s smooth. The 8-speed Steptronic transmission shifts like silk, while the rear-wheel-drive layout keeps the car balanced, lively, and responsive through corners.
BMW claims a combined economy of 42.8 mpg, but this is a car that’s more about refined punch than numbers. It cruises effortlessly, accelerates with confidence, and handles with the poise of a true M-inspired machine.
Performance Highlights:
- 2.0L 4-cylinder twin turbo petrol engine
- 181 hp / 300 Nm torque
- Rear-wheel drive
- 0–100 km/h in 7.1s
- Up to 42.8 mpg combined
- Drive Mode Select (Eco, Comfort, Sport)
Technology & Features: Intuitive and Intelligent
BMW’s iDrive 7.0 infotainment system sits at the heart of the car, controlling everything from navigation to media with a slick rotary controller or voice commands. The 10.25” touchscreen feels responsive and modern, and the full-digital Live Cockpit Professional display behind the wheel adds a futuristic touch.
Standard features include:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
- Adaptive LED Headlights with High Beam Assist
- Front & Rear Parking Sensors + Reverse Camera
- Cruise Control with Braking Function
- Drive Performance Control with selectable modes
- Optional: Harman Kardon premium sound system
Why It’s a Great Choice: A Coupe That Can Do It All
Some cars are made to get you from A to B. The 420i M Sport is made to make that journey unforgettable.
It’s a proper driver’s car — balanced, sharp, and rewarding behind the wheel. But it’s also practical, reliable, and surprisingly fuel efficient for a coupe of this calibre. Whether you’re navigating tight Cypriot streets or flying down open roads, the 420i gives you that rare feeling: I could do this all day.
It’s a car for professionals, families, and weekend thrill-seekers alike — with the badge to impress, the power to perform, and the comfort to enjoy every mile.
What the Experts Say:
WhatCar:
“Looks sharper than ever and drives with confidence. The 420i balances style and substance brilliantly.”
AutoExpress:
“A refined cruiser with real presence. BMW’s best coupe in years.”
DID YOU KNOW?
Hybrids Don’t Need to Plug In
Cars like the Toyota Yaris Hybrid and LaFerrari charge themselves while driving — no cable needed.
The Fastest-Selling Car Type in Cyprus?
Compact hybrids like the Yaris and Mazda 2 are among the most in-demand used vehicles across the island.
Toyota Yaris 1.5 Petrol (2022)
Big Surprises in a Small Package
Design & Comfort: City Smart with a Confident Edge
€16,900 - 34,000km (low millage)
The 2022 Toyota Yaris might be compact in size, but there’s nothing small about its attitude. This fourth-generation model brings a bold, athletic shape with wide arches, sharp lines, and a squat stance that makes it look like it’s ready to pounce — even when parked.
Inside, the cabin feels surprisingly premium. The dash is clean and modern, the seats are supportive and sculpted, and there’s enough room for four adults without a squeeze. Toyota’s attention to detail is clear, with soft-touch materials, a smart digital display, and just enough sporty touches to make it feel youthful without being gimmicky.
Whether you’re weaving through Nicosia or parking in tight beachfront spots, the Yaris is a car that feels right at home in the city — but won’t punish you on longer trips either.
Performance & Economy: Light, Nimble, and Efficient
This Yaris features a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine paired with a smooth CVT automatic gearbox. It delivers 118 bhp and reaches 0–100 km/h in around 9.7 seconds — quick enough for daily fun, and responsive off the line. The engine note is punchy but refined, and it stays quiet when cruising.
But where the Yaris really shines is efficiency. With a combined fuel economy of over 55 mpg and emissions under 120g/km, it’s one of the cleanest and most cost-effective petrol hatchbacks on the road. Light steering and a tight turning circle make it ideal for city streets, but the suspension setup absorbs bumps with surprising maturity.
Performance Highlights:
- 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol engine
- 118 bhp / 145 Nm torque
- CVT automatic transmission
- 0–100 km/h in 9.7s
- Fuel economy: 55–60 mpg
- Front-wheel drive with agile chassis
Technology & Features: Packed for the Price
Toyota doesn’t hold back on the kit. The Yaris includes a central 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera, and Bluetooth connectivity.
But where it really punches above its weight is safety. Toyota Safety Sense comes standard, with:
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Keep Assist
- Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection
- Road Sign Recognition
- Automatic High Beams
You also get climate control, electric mirrors, keyless entry, and a digital driver display. For a small car, it’s packed.
Why It’s a Great Choice: Smart, Safe, and Surprisingly Grown-Up
Don’t let the size fool you. The Yaris isn’t just a runaround — it’s a seriously well-rounded car. It’s stylish enough for younger drivers, smart enough for professionals, and safe enough for families.
This is the kind of car that’s easy to own, cheap to run, and actually enjoyable to drive. And because it’s a Toyota, it’s backed by bulletproof reliability and excellent resale value.
Whether you’re navigating rush hour, parking at the market, or heading out for a Sunday drive, the Yaris fits in — and stands out.
What the Experts Say:
AutoExpress:
“A benchmark for small hatchbacks. Comfortable, confident, and cleverly engineered.”
CarBuyer:
“Stylish, efficient, and surprisingly grown-up. The latest Yaris is a major step forward.”
DID YOU KNOW?
Worn Tyres = 50% Longer Stopping Distance
At just 1.6 mm tread, braking distances in wet conditions can increase by more than 50%. Always check your tyres.

Carmaster Car Showdown
Every issue, we put two cars head-to-head — just for fun. From everyday hatchbacks to outrageous supercars, it’s all about comparing the numbers.
There’s no winner here — just a chance to see how different models stack up on paper. Some are surprisingly close, others worlds apart.
Have a showdown you’d love to see? Drop us a message or send in your picks — we’re always up for a challenge.
Mazda 2 Vs Toyota Taris
These two hatchbacks are as close as it gets. The Mazda 2 Hybrid and the Toyota Yaris Hybrid Z Package share nearly identical hybrid powertrains, fuel efficiency, and everyday practicality — and for good reason. Both are known for reliability, low running costs, and that nimble feel that makes city driving a pleasure. They're not just economical — they’re smart, safe, and built to last, which is why they’re some of the fastest-selling cars we see come through Carmaster.
If you're thinking about making the switch to hybrid or just want a dependable car with the latest features, these two are hard to beat. Want to see more? Check out our latest stock online — or better yet, drop by the showroom. We often have excellent cars available in-store that don’t even make it to the website. Whether you're browsing or ready to drive something home, the Carmaster team is here to help.
We have two similar cars for sale on our website a Mazda 2 and Toyota Yaris.

Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Vs Ferrari LaFerrari
Lamborghini Aventador SVJ
The SVJ (Super Veloce Jota) is not just a faster Aventador — it’s one of the most aggressive, raw, and track-ready Lamborghinis ever built. Under its carbon fibre skin lies a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 that screams to 8,500 rpm and pumps out a spine-tingling 759 horsepower. This is the last of a dying breed: no turbos, no hybrid, just brutal power and analog noise.
With a 0–60 time of 2.7 seconds and active aerodynamics (Lamborghini's ALA system), it corners like nothing else in its class. It also holds the Nürburgring lap record for a production car (at the time of its release), beating cars that cost twice as much. Everything about the SVJ is outrageous — from its theatre to its grip to the sheer sense of occasion every time you fire it up.
Fun fact: The exhaust is so loud it had to be re-tuned for road use in some countries.
Ferrari LaFerrari
Ferrari’s first hybrid hypercar, the LaFerrari is not just fast — it’s an engineering milestone. With a combined 950 horsepower from a 6.3-litre V12 and F1-derived HY-KERS electric motor, it hits 0–60 mph in 2.6 seconds and 0–100 in under 5 seconds. It’s blisteringly fast, but also intelligent — the hybrid system fills torque gaps and helps the car stay razor-sharp across its rev range.
Unlike most hybrids, the LaFerrari doesn’t plug in. Instead, it charges its batteries under braking and when the engine has excess power — just like an F1 car. The handling is surgical, the acceleration savage, and the soundtrack a mix of electric hum and that screaming Ferrari V12. Only 499 units were made for the global market, making it one of the most sought-after Ferraris of all time.
Insider detail: The steering wheel has no indicator stalks — everything is done F1-style, right from the wheel.

DID YOOU KNOW?
The Loudest Production Car?
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ produces up to 120 dB under full throttle — louder than a chainsaw. Bring earplugs.
The LaFerrari Thinks for You
Ferrari’s HY-KERS hybrid system doesn’t just add power — it decides when to use it, mimicking Formula 1 energy recovery strategies.

DIY - What You Can Do Yourself
Simple Checks That Keep Your Car Running Better, Longer
You don’t need to be a mechanic to keep your vehicle in good shape. A few quick checks every month can extend your car’s life, save you money, and help avoid costly repairs — especially in Cyprus, where heat and terrain put cars to the test.
🛠️ Smart Habits for Petrol & Diesel Drivers
1. Check Your Oil — It’s the Most Important Thing You Can Do
Oil keeps your engine lubricated and running smoothly. If levels drop, the engine starts overheating and wearing itself down from the inside.
- Always check oil when the engine is cool and parked on level ground
- Look at both the level and the colour — very dark or gritty oil may need changing
- Use fully synthetic oil for better protection and longer intervals
- Pay attention to oil temperature — if it runs hotter than normal, it could be a sign you’re running low
- Running an engine on low oil can cause permanent damage
If you do one thing every month, make it this.
2. Tyre Pressure & Wear
Underinflated tyres wear faster, grip less, and use more fuel.
- Check pressures every 2–3 weeks
- Keep an eye out for uneven wear, which can signal poor alignment
3. Brake Fluid, Coolant & Wipers
Pop the bonnet and check fluid levels. These take seconds to top up — and ignoring them could mean a breakdown.
4. Don’t Ignore Warning Lights
Yellow lights = early warning. Red lights = stop the car and check.
If in doubt, book a diagnostic check with Carmaster.
5. Change Your Air Filter
A clean air filter helps the engine breathe better and improves fuel economy by up to 10%. It’s a cheap, fast fix you can do yourself or ask us about.
Want peace of mind? Book a basic maintenance & service check with Carmaster. We’ll handle all of this and more.

Stay Cool: Air Conditioning Servicing Now Available
Summer heat in Cyprus isn’t just uncomfortable — it can take a toll on your vehicle’s efficiency, too. A well-maintained air conditioning system doesn’t just cool your cabin faster. It also reduces strain on your engine, improves fuel economy, and helps filter out dust and allergens in the air.
Signs your A/C might need attention:
- Takes longer than usual to cool the car
- Blows warm or musty-smelling air
- Noticeable drop in airflow or pressure
- You haven’t serviced it in over a year
At Carmaster, we offer professional air conditioning servicing to:
- Recharge refrigerant gas
- Check system pressure and compressor function
- Clean or replace cabin filters
- Boost overall cooling efficiency
Don’t wait for your A/C to quit mid-summer. Book your service today and enjoy cooler, cleaner air today!

Classic Car of the Month – Citroën 2CV
The Car That Made France Move – and the World Smile
The Citroën 2CV might just be the most unconventional car ever to win the hearts of millions. Designed in the 1930s, launched in 1948, and remaining in production until 1990, the 2CV was created for one mission: to get rural France on the road. It had to be affordable, easy to repair, light enough to be pushed out of the mud, and able to carry four farmers and a sack of potatoes over a ploughed field — all while keeping a basket of eggs intact. Somehow, it succeeded.
From its corrugated steel body panels to its hammock-style seats, everything about the 2CV was built with purpose. It started with a tiny 375cc engine and eventually grew to the slightly speedier 602cc version in the 2CV6. It wasn’t built for speed — with a top speed of around 70 mph — but it was incredibly fuel efficient, cheap to run, and surprisingly capable in rough terrain thanks to its long-travel, fully independent suspension.
Square Lights
One of its most distinctive features? The headlights. Early 2CVs had classic round lights, but later models like the Club and Charleston proudly wore square headlights, a design decision that felt shockingly modern at the time and made the car instantly recognisable. Combined with the soft, roll-back canvas roof and iconic swooping wheel arches, the 2CV stood out on every road — and still does today.
Its interior was delightfully simple. A single-spoke steering wheel, minimalist dash, pull-cord gear selector, and easy-to-clean surfaces gave it a unique utilitarian charm. But don’t mistake it for crude — the 2CV was clever. It had a flat floor for extra space, removable seats for picnic use, and mechanical components you could fix with basic tools.
On Screen Favourite
Despite (or because of) its slow pace and quirky looks, the 2CV became an icon. Beloved by students, farmers, artists, and rebels alike, it transcended class and culture. It starred in films, books, and comics. In For Your Eyes Only, a bright yellow 2CV roared (well, buzzed) through a Bond car chase — showing that style doesn’t always come with horsepower.
Why It Still Matters
More than 3.8 million units were sold, and countless others spawned from its platform — including the Citroën Dyane, Méhari, and even 2CV-based kit cars. Today, it’s a cult classic. Collectors love it. Purists restore it. And more recently, electric conversion kits are giving it new life while preserving its unmistakable shape.
What makes the 2CV so unforgettable isn’t just how it looked — it’s what it stood for: simplicity, reliability, and freedom. A car that never tried to be anything but useful and ended up being loved for exactly that.

Avoiding Costly Rental Mistakes in Cyprus
We take care of the details — so you don’t have to
At Carmaster, our mission is to make car and van rentals simple, reliable, and stress-free. When you rent from us, everything’s included — fully serviced vehicles, insurance, documentation, and local support. You don’t stay in business for over 25 years by cutting corners.
All our cars and vans are regularly inspected and cleaned, with air conditioning, lights, tyres, and electronics tested before pickup. But whether you rent from us or anyone else, here are some smart tips to avoid common mistakes and enjoy a hassle-free journey.
✅ Before You Drive Off
Do a walkaround
Check the car for dents, scrapes, or interior damage — and take a few quick photos. It protects you in case someone tries to bill you for something that wasn’t your fault.Test all key features
Don’t just drive away — check that the air conditioning, radio, windows, indicators, and headlights all work. If something isn’t functioning, report it immediately or ask for another car.Check the fuel gauge and odometer
Make sure the starting fuel matches the paperwork, and take a photo of both for your records.Look for the sun visor
In Cyprus, cars can heat up to over 50°C when parked. Sun visors are usually provided to protect the dashboard and keep the cabin bearable. If it’s missing, ask for one — it makes a big difference.
🧯During Your Rental
Check your breakdown cover
Not all rental companies include roadside assistance — at Carmaster, we do. But if you’re renting elsewhere, double-check what's included so you’re not left stranded in the heat.Be fuel smart in Cyprus
Most petrol stations are attended service during the day — you stay in your car, and an attendant fills up for you. It's quick, easy, and you usually pay at the pump. But at night, some stations switch to card-only machines that don’t accept all foreign cards, so plan your refuelling accordingly.Don’t assume you’re covered for Northern Cyprus
Most rental companies, including Carmaster, do not insure vehicles to cross into the north. If you plan to visit, you’ll need to check border requirements and insurance options separately.Know your return time
Returning the vehicle late — even by 30 minutes — could result in a full extra day’s charge. Be clear on your return window and communicate any delays in advance.
❓Rental FAQ
Q: What if something’s not working when I collect the car?
Let the rental company know immediately — even better, take a photo or video. If needed, request another vehicle. Don’t drive off without reporting it, or you may be held responsible later.
Q: Is a full tank required on return?
Yes — most rentals are full-to-full. Fill up before returning the car or face extra charges. Keep the receipt just in case.
Q: Do I need to clean the car before returning it?
Generally no — we handle that. But extreme dirt, sand, or smoking inside the vehicle can lead to cleaning fees. Keep it tidy and avoid leaving food or rubbish inside.
